Beauty from Ashes: Finding God’s Glory in Seasons of Suffering”

I recently read a story shared by a sister in Christ, a young woman honoring her father who transitioned six years ago today, January 7th. As she reflected on his passing, she shared something profound: during her father’s final days, as she prayed before the Lord, she felt God speak to her heart, saying, “Watch My glory in this time of suffering.”

At the time, she couldn’t understand what that meant. How could there be glory in suffering? How do you reconcile pain and loss with God’s goodness? Yet, as the days, months and years passed, she began to see His glory unfold even in the midst of her grief.

Her words made me pause and reflect. I, too, know the ache of loss. It’s been 12 years since I lost my mom and nearly three years since I lost my dad and many more loved ones within that time. The pain of missing them is real and raw, even now. But I have also seen God’s glory in the dark seasons, even when it is hard to fully see and understand.

The Struggle to See Glory

See we often get caught in the suffering. The pain and darkness threaten to consume us, pulling us deeper into the loss. In those moments, it feels impossible to see the blessings, the light, or the glory of God’s promises.

How do you balance the darkness and the light? How do you celebrate blessings even as you grieve a loss? How do you hold onto His promises when your heart is breaking into so many pieces and you feel like you are losing your mind?

I do not have all the answers. But what I know for sure is this: God is not a liar. God is faithful. He is always faithful, even when we can’t fully comprehend His faithfulness.

A Shift in Perspective

I believe that in this hour God wants to reshift our perspective. See the enemy wants us to focus solely on the loss, on the suffering, on the darkness. But God wants us to know that there is glory even in the hardest seasons. There is light, even in the shadows. There are blessings, even in the midst of pain.

Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

I pray today that we have the courage to ask God for clarity in our seasons of suffering. May He open our eyes to see His glory, His grace, and His blessings in ways we might have overlooked. May He help us to hold both the pain of loss and the joy of His goodness in the same hand.

Scriptures to Anchor Your Heart

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Even in our lowest moments, God is near, comforting and carrying us.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.”

Isaiah 61:3 “to grant those that mourn, to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”

John 16:33 “In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Encouragement for the Journey

Jesus reminds us that while suffering is part of this life, He has already won the victory.

If you are walking through a season of suffering today, I want to remind you that you are not alone. God is with you, even now. His glory is present, even when it feels hidden. Take heart and hold fast to His unchanging hand.

Ask Him to reveal His blessings to you in the midst of your pain. Trust that He is working on your behalf, even in the shadows, to bring light and life into your situation.

There is Glory in the Season of Suffering. There are Blessings in the Season of Loss. And above all, there is God’s Love—Constant, Unfailing, and Always present.

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
